March 17, 2014

Fleet Feet Sports partners with Make-A-Wish® Central New York and generously offers to train student in preparation for run

Syracuse, N.Y. – Make-A-Wish Central New York is pleased to announce for a second year in a row the Syracuse University Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity is raising funds for wishes, again in a unique way. Rob Faugno, nephew to Buddy Valastro, AKA the Cake Boss, will run 54 miles on Friday, April 11 to fund-raise for central New York wishes.

Faugno plans to run in honor of his sister Bartolina’s 18th birthday, from Syracuse University to the Cornell University’s Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity house in Ithaca, N.Y., with the help of Fleet Feet Sports’ professional training and Make-A-Wish Central New York.

Faugno’s sister, Bartolina, became a Make-A-Wish® “Wish Kid” when she suffered from epilepsy and had a brain tumor as a child. After numerous trials of different medications and surgeries, Bartolina, approaching her 18th birthday, plans on attending college in Boston in the fall.

In an effort to give back to a charity that is near and dear to his entire family and help provide more wishes for children with life-threatening illnesses, Faugno hopes to raise $50,000 leading up to the run in April. Click here to learn more and to donate.

“We are so honored and thrilled by Rob’s dedication and desire to make a difference in the life of children, and all of the amazing support Make-A-Wish has received from his wonderful family. Rob is a true leader and we are proud to know him,” said Diane Kuppermann, President and CEO, Make-A-Wish Central New York.

In preparation for his race on April 11, Faugno is being coached by Fred Joslyn, training programs manager at Fleet Feet Sports. Faugno is also enrolled in the running company’s marathon distance training program. Fleet Feet Sports is providing Faugno with appropriate running gear and necessities.

“Fleet Feet Sports is proud to help prepare Rob for his run,” said Joslyn. “Rob’s commitment to run 54 miles for charity is a true inspiration and is also a great way to kick off Fleet Feet Sports spring training programs.”

In addition to the marathon distance training program, Fleet Feet Sports is offering a variety of other training programs this spring including the Boilermaker Training program, No Boundaries Beginner 5k program, Personal Best 5k program and triathlon program.
