When it came time to ask for a wish, Lola knew exactly what she wanted. At just 12 years old, Wish Kid Lola knew everything about food. Inspired by Food Network TV show “Chopped,” Lola’s wish was to be a judge in her very own food competition! Lola’s entire community came together to make her wish come true.
Hundreds of locals came out to support Lola’s World Class Food Festival. After a police escort, Lola and her family stepped out of their limousine in Savory Downtown and were greeted by a crowd of cheering, smiling faces. As soon as Lola got settled in, it was time for the competition to begin! Four local chefs were called in to compete for Lola’s approval, including Christian Ives (executive chef and general manager of the Jacques Cartier Room Restaurant), Clayton Moody (sous chef for the Jacques Cartier Room Restaurant), Patrick Ryan (Wish Dad and former chef of Stella in New Orleans) and Robbie Myers (executive chef of the Thousand Islands Club in Wellesley Island and winner of the 2013 “Chopped: Military Salute” competition).
Dressed for the part, Lola was enrobed in a custom-made purple chef coat. There were two 30-minute rounds to the contest for which Lola selected her own secret ingredients. For the appetizer challenge she chose cow tongue, barbecue Pringles, honey and horned “spikey” melon and cream cheese, bacon, pork rinds, and jalapenos for the desert challenge. In the end, Chef Patrick Ryan was declared the winner! Lola was also presented with gifts and personal notes from “Cake Boss” Buddy Valastro, and chef, author and media personality Christina Tosi.
Thank you for making wonderful wishes like Lola’s come true! This was truly a once in a lifetime experience Lola, her family, and her community will never forget!
