Teams Can Make Wishes Come True at Southern Tier Make-A-Wish® 5K Run/Walk For Wishes
Binghamton, N.Y. – Registration is now open for Make-A-Wish® Central New York’s annual Southern Tier 5K Run/Walk for Wishes®. This year’s event is in honor of wish kid Jeremiah and will take place on Saturday, April 26, 2014 on the “Lee Barta Course” in Recreation Park in Binghamton, N.Y.
The Run/Walk for Wishes features a competitive 5K run at 9 a.m. and a fun and casual 5K walk at 9:05 a.m. Participants can set up teams with friends and family and together they can enjoy this wonderful day for a great cause. Prizes will be awarded for competitive runners, as well as for top individual and top team walkers/ fundraising efforts.
Since its inception in 1985, Make-A-Wish Central New York has granted 267 wishes in the Southern Tier. Last year Make-A-Wish Central New York was able to grant wishes for 13 very special children in the Southern Tier. “Through resources raised at events like the Southern Tier 5K Run/Walk for Wishes, we hope to be able to grant many more wishes this coming year,” said Diane Kuppermann, president and CEO of Make-A-Wish Central New York. The total cost of wishes granted in the region in 2013 exceeded $117,000; with the average cost of a wish at $9,000.
Make-A-Wish Central New York, Inc. is a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization dedicated to granting special wishes to children between the ages of 2-1/2 and 18 who are living with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Make-A-Wish Central New York has granted nearly 1500 Wishes since its inception. In granting a favorite wish, the Foundation strives to provide the wish child and family with extra-special memories of joy and laughter. A wish offers a welcome respite - a time for nothing, but fun!
Make-A-Wish continues to “bring the magic of a wish” to special Central New York kids because of the generous support of the central New York Community both individuals and corporations throughout the fifteen county region it serves. The counties being served are: Broome, Cayuga, Chenango, Cortland, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego, Otsego, St. Lawrence, Tioga and Tompkins.
