Syracuse, N.Y. – Make-A-Wish® Central New York and Rob Faugno have finalized all the logistics associated with Rob’s epic event to help make wishes come true. President of Syracuse University Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, Rob Faugno and his PIKE brothers are raising funds for wishes in a unique way. Rob Faugno, nephew to Buddy Valastro, AKA the Cake Boss, will run 54 miles on Friday, April 11 to fundraise for Central New York wishes.
Faugno is running to honor of his sister Bartolina’s 18th birthday, from Syracuse University to the Cornell University’s Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity house in Ithaca, N.Y., Faugno’s sister, Bartolina, became a Make-A-Wish® “Wish Kid” when she suffered from epilepsy and had a brain tumor as a child. After numerous trials of different medications and surgeries, Bartolina, turns 18 on Friday and will attend Lesley University in Boston, MA in the fall.
In an effort to give back to a charity that is near and dear to his entire family and help provide more wishes for children with life-threatening illnesses, Faugno hopes to raise $50,000. Click here (http://friends.wish.org/033-000/page/Robert-Faugno/Run-Rob-Run.htm) to learn more and to donate.
“We are honored by Rob’s dedication and desire to make a difference in the life of children living with life threatening medical conditions. His commitment and that of his family are beyond words. Rob is a true leader and outstanding young man; we are proud to know him,” said Diane Kuppermann, President and CEO, Make-A-Wish Central New York. Fred Joslyn, training programs manager at Fleet Feet Sports, has coached Faugno for the past 16 weeks in preparation for his run on April 11. Fleet Feet Sports is providing Faugno with appropriate running gear and Joslyn has closely monitored his activity and diet to ensure his health and safety.
“Fleet Feet Sports is proud to help prepare Rob for his run,” said Joslyn. “Rob’s commitment to run 54 miles for charity is a true inspiration and is also a great way to kick off Fleet Feet Sports spring training programs.”
Make-A-Wish began in the dreams of a young boy, Chris Greicius, who wished to become a police officer. It’s fitting and coincidental that the New York State Police was founded on April 11, 1917 and wonderful that they can mark this day but supporting the Run Rob Run event and Make-A-Wish. Trooper Jack Keller and Trooper Nathan Riegal both Public Information Officers for their respective barracks (Oneida and Cortland) were eager to support the event.
In addition to the State Police, Syracuse University Campus Police and Cornell University Campus Police have lent support. Local police departments along the route are expected to lend their support too. No roads will be closed and drivers along the route are encouraged to be cautious helping to ensure Rob’s safety.
Faugno will begin the run at 12:30 AM on April 11th at the PIKE fraternity at 209 Comstock Avenue, Syracuse, NY and expects to arrive at Ho Plaza at Cornell University sometime between 2:00 – 3:00 PM. The Cornell PIKE fraternity will host the finish line festivities complete with a cake from Faugno’s uncle, “The Cake Boss.” The Intrafraternity Council and Panhellenic Council on both campuses have embraced the event helping to raise significant dollars for Make-A-Wish. “The men and women in Greek life on both campuses have exhibited tremendous leadership and true philanthropy,” said Kuppermann. She concluded by stating, “they are a credit to their respective institutions.”
