The 2015 Make-A-Wish® Central New York calendar is now available for purchase. Every year, Make-A-Wish Central New York creates calendars that are sold to the public and utilized to generate awareness.
The goal of this year’s calendar is to address the misconception that Make-A-Wish® only serves terminally ill children. Each month features an adult “Wish Kid” whose wish was granted in the past and shares via photographs and writing how the individuals are now, not only surviving but thriving.
The calendar marks the 30th anniversary of Make-A-Wish Central New York and conveys the long-term, positive impact of the wish experience.
Nikki Bronner, of Hastings, is one of the 12 “Wish Kids” highlighted in this year’s calendar. After reoccurring Hodgkin’s disease over several years, Wish Kid Nikki remains in remission today and attributes her success to a positive mentality and endless determination.
As a result of her illness, Nikki was home-schooled throughout her treatment. At age 18, her wish to have her own furnished apartment was granted, giving her the sense of independence that she craved. Nikki now owns North East Academy of Martial Arts with her family where she practices the discipline that has been a part of her family for over 30 years. Nikki recently organized a flash mob event with all of the proceeds benefiting Make-A-Wish® Central New York. The event was a huge success, raising more than $8,000. As a result of this generous gift, Nikki was paired with Wish Kid Zachie so she could witness the hope, strength and joy of a magical wish experience being paid forward.
Calendars are $5 each if picked up in person; $7 each if mailed. People can mail their donation to Make-A-Wish Central New York, 5005 Campuswood Drive, East Syracuse, NY 13057 or call for more information: (315) 475-WISH or (800) 846-WISH (9474).
