Teams Can Make Wishes Come True at Southern Tier
Make-A-Wish® 5K Walk/Run For Wishes
Binghamton, N.Y. – Registration is now open for Make-A-Wish® Central New York’s annual Southern Tier 5K Walk/Run for Wishes. This year’s event will take place on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at MacArthur Park in Binghamton, N.Y.
The Walk/Run for wishes features a competitive 5K run at 9 a.m. and a noncompetitive 5K walk at 9:05 a.m. Participants can set up teams with relatives and friends and together they can enjoy this wonderful day for a great cause. Prizes will be awarded for competitive runners, as well as for top individual and top team walkers/ fundraising efforts.
Since its inception in 1985, Make-A-Wish Central New York has granted 254 wishes in the Southern Tier – that’s approximately ten wishes per year for children in the region. “Last year, we were able to grant wishes for 14 very special children in the Southern Tier,” said Diane Kuppermann, president and CEO of Make-A-Wish Central New York. “Through resources raised at events like the Southern Tier 5K Run/Walk for Wishes, we hope to be able to grant many more wishes this coming year.” The total cost of wishes granted in the region in 2012 exceeded $126,000; with the average cost of a wish at $9,000.
Incorporated in 1985, the Make-A-Wish Central New York, Inc. is a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization dedicated to granting special wishes to children between the ages of 2-1/2 and 18 who are living with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Make-A-Wish Central New York has granted more than 1400 Wishes since its inception. In granting a favorite wish, the Foundation strives to provide the wish child and family with extra-special memories of joy and laughter. A wish offers a welcome respite - a time for nothing, but fun!
Make-A-Wish continues to “bring the magic of a wish” to special Central New York kids because of the generous support of the central New York Community both individuals and corporations throughout the fifteen county region it serves. The counties being served are: Broome, Cayuga, Chenango, Cortland, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego, Otsego, St. Lawrence, Tioga and Tompkins.
