Make-A-Wish® Central New York Hosts its Annual Ms. Orange Fan® Luncheon

Syracuse, N.Y.– September 11, 2013- Juli and Coach Jim Boeheim and the Syracuse University men’s basketball team will host the Make-A-Wish® Central New York’s 22nd Annual Ms. Orange Fan® Luncheon on Sunday, October 27, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the OnCenter Complex.

“Ms. Orange Fan® Luncheon is an amazing event for the Make-A-Wish Central New York and is exceptional for so many reasons,” noted Diane Kuppermann, President and CEO of Make-A-Wish Central New York. She added, “This event is special because of the commitment our Ms. Orange Fan’s have shown year after year; it is extraordinary because of all the Wish Kids who have benefited from Coach Boeheim’s generosity.”

Kuppermann also stated that Coach Boeheim has helped raise over one million dollars for Make- A-Wish, equating to more than 190 wishes. “It’s remarkable,” she added. Coach Boeheim originally envisioned a benefit that would involve both his SU Basketball Team and a very important audience: Ms. Orange Fans. The idea was to bring two powerful wish-granting communities together to benefit children from the Central New York area living with life-threatening medical conditions.

Since the day of the first Ms. Orange Fan Luncheon, over 22 years ago, family members and friends who have been touched by the magic of a wish have continued to generate hope, strength and joy. That is why we say, share the power of a wish®!

This sell-out event starts with a Ms. Orange Tailgate Party, beginning at 9am at The OnCenter Parking Lot. The ladies-only luncheon will include appearances by Otto the Orange, the Sour Sitrus Society, SU cheerleaders, and their dance team. In addition, a silent and live auction will take place.

Three lucky ticket holders will have a chance to win amazing prices. First place prize is an exquisite “Michele” watch worth $4,000, second place prize is a $1000 shopping spree and third place prize is a $500 shopping spree, all are compliments of Henry Wilson Jewelers.

The highlight of the event is the auctioning off of each member of the SU men’s basketball team. During the auction, Wish kids (ladies only, of course!) will escort the players and winning bidders will have the opportunity to have a player or coach join their table for lunch! There will also be lots of photo, autography and interview opportunities!

Incorporated in 1985, the Make-A-Wish Central New York, Inc. is a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization dedicated to granting special wishes to children between the ages of 2-1/2 and 18 who are living with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Make-A-Wish has granted more than 1,400 wishes since its inception. In granting a favorite wish, Make-A-Wish strives to provide the wish child and family with extra-special memories of joy and laughter. A wish offers a welcome respite - a time for nothing, but fun!

Make-A-Wish continues to “bring the magic of a wish” to special central New York kids because of the generous support of the Central New York community, that includes both individuals and corporations, throughout the fifteen county regions it serves. The counties being served are: Broome, Cayuga, Chenango, Cortland, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego, Otsego, St. Lawrence, Tioga and Tompkins.
